Another Draft
Thanks to netmouse, who answered some OpenOffice questions, I've finished the second draft of the Firefly novel. I'm going to read it over, mark it up, and then see if I can reach Pocket Books to find out if they have any interest in seeing it.

On a more annoying note, the doctor gave me the wrong date for my surgery, as a result of which I missed the appointment, and it had to be rescheduled. The current version is November 7. In case anyone doesn't know, it's very minor surgery, removing some polyps from my nose so I can stop getting eye infections. I just want it done.

Other than that, not a lot going on in my life.

Not to sound like a whiny child, but why will it take a year for us to see Dzur?

A friend made me a mix disc which includes Stream Of Consciousness Blues. Where can I find that to buy? Would Roper have it (since Windycon is in a month)?

It is on a wonderful album. I believe copies are still available on dealer's tables, although it has been several years since I got my copies.

It's a fabulous album. Every song rocks, and I wish there was sheet music for some of them (Brother and Sister needs to be an audition piece!)

You can get the CD through:

Uncle Hugo's Book Store 2864 Chicago Av. S.
Minneapolis, MN 55407
Phone: (612)824-6347
E-Mail: unclehugo@aol.com

Same info can be found at dreamcafe.

Oh, an album name would likely help, too:

"A Rose for Iconoclastes"

When you mentioned the Firefly novel earlier, I figured that you had been tapped to write it, not that you were doing it on spec. So what happens if Pocket books isn't interested in it? Do you send it to Joss? Do you change all of the proper nouns and call it something else? Does it sit on your computer and keep its fingers crossed?

It occurred to me how long it's been since we've been in touch. I measure this in cat lives.

Kragar - briefly misidentified as Kiera back in the Fidonet SF Echo days - died last year. Brain tumor. He fought it to the end and we kept him comfortable. He was eating and trying to play up to the last day.

Khaavren is officially an Elder Statescat, having gotten quite large in his 13 years. He is getting calluses where a swordscat's calluses ought not to be - on his rather large belly from flopping on it so much.

[info]rikibeth couldn't stand the cat deficit after Kragar died (neither could I) and we ended up taking in a stray kitten within a few months after. She is petite, silver and black, and early on she was quite a loudmouth, so naturally we named her Aliera.

I (a fan of yours) told my wife (a fan of yours and of Firefly) about you writing a Firefly book. I can't say I've ever heard her squee like that before.

I haven't been that kind of "fan" for years, but I must admit to being a bit baffled that apparently "Firefly" (whatever that is) is a really, really big deal to some people (and a big enough deal for you so that you'd want to write a "Firefly" novel) but I've never heard of it. (The same with a current movie called Serenity.) Maybe somebody else on your "friends" list could enlighten me. I will, however, second to your other friends who are curious that I recommend *A Rose for Iconoclastes.* Good luck with the surgery.

[info]kate_nepveu has a bunch of Firefly and Serenity posts, including Why Watch Firefly which has (in the comments) a
link to the scripts for people like me who don't have the attention span for movies and TV.

I read My Own Kind of Freedom last night. Henceforth, it shall be known as the Big Damn Novel [BDN]. Once it is at Pocket Books, we must convince them they must publish it. You'll never read/see another FIREFLY/SERENITY story like this one.

Great. Someone else sharing how great one of Steve's novels is, and I have to wait for it. Thanks. I will be sticking pins in your voodoo doll now. . . .

I had an op for nose polyps a long time ago. It was painful for a week after, annoying for a while after that. Stock up on vaseline and vaseline-based Polysporin and you'll be fine.

Where can I read a copy of "My Own Kind of Freedom"? I'm an 11th hour Browncoat, but the War ain't over yet, and I'll fight just as hard even though I showed up late.

Also the Sun Room on http://www.fireflyfans.net doesn't seem to be working and I'm going through withdrawals (I was right in the middle of Kaylee's Lament).

Help!
