Congenial
Back from Congenial, where they managed to put together an excellent convention in spite of overwhelming odds. It was grand seeing old friends, and the music was good, and, just to make it a real convention experience, I got the Crud when I got home, so I'm going back to bed to try to shake it.

Oh, if only you had come to the Upper Midwest, so that you could have headed to Minicon this upcoming weekend.

I know how to make you better: This here is a video of Alanis Morrisette covering the Black-Eyed Peas "My Humps."

I swear on all that is holy that this is really Alanis doing it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W91sqAs-_-g

And I hope that, like me, your opinion of Alanis Morrisette has risen as geometrically as mine did, having watched this video.

Ha-ha! That clip is sooo funny! I rate that with her God character in Dogma.

I have to ask, what is "The Crud?" I'm not joking. I don't really know. Forgive me, I'm foreign.

I'm guessing "The Crud" means he got sick - a cold or something.

Yep. Incubation time slots in perfectly with someone attending a con. Con crud varies.

In Steve's case, it's a cold.

Robitussin's is our friend. The nasty cough is diminishing.

Apropos of nothing, that is a truly marvelous Firefly-quoting user icon you got there. Sorry for your crud. Take good care of yourself.

Sorry to hear you got sick! I find if I do anything social these days I get it. Lots of O.J. and rest for you!

But hurray for having a great time at a con!

Some webcomic celebrities (aka Scott Kurtz of PvP) have adopted a policy of not shaking hands to avoid catching the dreaded crud.

This came across as elitist or rude to fans, many complained and scoffed.

I propose a different strategy! Surgical mask and gloves! Or demand that fans use hand sanitizer before approaching within ten feet?

Seriously, though, hope ya feel better soon.

Or do like the politicians do and use hand sanitizer yourself. I know that people think that's tacky, but I think it's almost the only sensible course.

Or you could be like Mike Jittlov and not believe in shaking hands. But then, he's always been a little strange.

If someone has to come into contact with lots of people and doesn't want to be seen smearing stuff on his hand all the time, then gloves actually are the perfect solution. A pair can be found to go with any outfit at all these days, no matter how informal.

A great anecdote connected with E3, the electronics game convention. A magazine reviewer was chatting with one of the models an exhibitor had hired to be a "booth babe." When asked if she liked the gig, she said 'not really.'

When the writer asked her to explain, she put out her arm and invited him to smell her bicep, about three inches below the shoulder. The writer did so, and gagged at the stench.

"Yeah," she said, "when the fans take their pictures with me, that's where their armpits touch."
