Motorcycle Season
Back around '87 and '88 or so I was living in Finagle's Freehold.   We (meaning the household in general) had a Triumph Bonneville that none of us felt like either riding in the winter or leaving outside, so we'd haul it into the living room.  Around Christmas time, we'd put lights and tinsel and ribbons on it, and any presents that happened to be around would go under it.  From time to time we would stand around it singing carols.

Herewith, a sample.

Oh Christmas bike Oh Christmas bike,
You're leaking so much oil.
Oh Christmas bike Oh Christmas bike,
My hardwood floors are spoiled.
From gleaming pipes to handlebars
You're here cuz there's no room for cars.
Oh Christmas bike Oh Christmas bike,
You're leaking so much oil.

Turn off the TV and computer
Fala la la la la, la la la la.
See our happy Christmas scooter.
Fala la la la la, la la la la.
Lights and candles, green and red gear.
Fala la la la la, la la la.
Don't forget protective headgear.
Fala la la la, la la la la.

Silent bike, holy bike
Kickstand holding it upright.
Round yon Triumph with no space to ride.
Room filling up with carbon monoxide.
Sleep in heavenly fumes
Sleep in heavenly fumes.

Jingle bike jingle bike, sliding to  a spill.
Oh what fun it is to ride on a Triumph Bonneville
Jingle bike jingle bike, sliding to a spill
Oh what fun it is to ride on a Triumph Bonneville.
  Riding through the house
  Easy as you please
  Down the stairs we go
  With 750 CCs.
  Lights on signals blink
  Making Christmas zoom
Oh what fun is wiping out in the living room!
Oh, Jingle bike, jingle bike...

-laughter-

Also, I love the icon you have accompanying this remark.

I wonder how long until some enterprising person out of the Nevernever starts decorating small motorcycles that play these carols... -evil gleam- Not me, I've sworn off - um, what was the subject?

I remember the Christmas bike, but do not recall any of these carols. They are great. Note that one Tom Digby once suggested in Minneapa decorating the cats for Christmas instead of having a tree. That, too, would have been very interesting.

Like Nate, I remember the bike, but not the carols.

It was Finagle's Freehold and Reptile Gardens by that point, right? And maybe something else in the name?

Ah, the memories....

Did you know that I'm keeping the Christmas bike faith? I have Dawn Reed's 1972 Honda 175 twinkling merrily away in my living room at this very moment. I'll have to take a photo for you.

They have inspired me to write some Peak Oil doomer caroles.

Death to the World (the food is gone)...

Peak Oil was so Fateful...

I'll get right to work on them.

I have nothing useful to add, I just felt like saying:

Those are brilliant!

I finally caved and had to sell my old 68 Triumph T100C this year... broke my heart.

That first one reminds me of the old owners' joke:
Q: How do you know if your Triumph isn't running anymore?
A: It isn't leaking oil anywhere...

I needed a good giggle. I'm struggling with my cheer this year and the motorcycle made me giggle. I used to ride when I was in my youth, over 30 years ago. I've been asking the Snow Fairie for a trike that my husband and I can ride and that I can't drop.

If I do get one, I'm going to figure out how to get it into the living room and decorate it. I've been inspired.

Beauty. My dad speaks highly of a Triumph Bonneville he once had, so I had to share this with him. He was perhaps more amused than I was.

Austin gets ice storms roughly every other end-of-January - and there's the occasional hail. They say "every day spent riding is a good day" but you know, riding through hail is NOT a good day, no matter what they say. (And that's besides the cosmetic damage it causes to the bike.)
