Annoucement and a question
Announcement: I'll be out of touch for a while, on my way to Texas.

Question: If anyone saw the most recent episode of Shadow Unit--was the "chase" scene a deliberate poke at that Hitchcock scene, with the guy walking after the running woman?  With, of course, the usual Shadow Unit twist by doing that  thing with the make-up kit.  If so, then that's at least six references in that one scene (if you'll concede that any time a luger appears it's a Man From U.N.C.L.E. reference).  And I'm sure there are some I missed.

I think absolutely the Luger is an MfU reference. Especially when combined with a makeup kit.

And that gets Mission:Impossible in there too.

I was just watching the M:I today, where Jim Phelps prostitutes himself for his country.

I had forgotten that Jim was a gigolo.

I missed that, but did you notice David Simon's cameo as the rental car agent?

OMG, that WAS David Simon! I thought so! In an episode set in Baltimore, no less. Ex!

Now if they do Ed Burns as a Cop of the Week, I will burst a blood vessel laughing.

Okay, I did just burst a blood vessel. Took me this long to realize that was BOTH a shoutout to The Wire and a Whedon reference.

Good grief!

Okay. The old guy. In the wheelchair.

With the velour jacket.

Was that Anthony Zerbe?

AAAAAH!!! I missed it! Stupid nonsentient VCR. Why can't I have a TiVo like the cool kids?

But even though I haven't seen it, I'm going to say Yes, all resemblances to persons living or dead are purely not coincidental. Remember that ep with the cat? Rreferences to every single Trek series, in alphabetical order, plus Blake's 7. Nothing those writers do is by accident.

My other show is the best other show.

Can I just say that I'm SO VERY glad that SU isn't on Fox?

If it were on Fox, everybody would be falling into bed with everybody else by the end of the first season.

And I mean, tripping over the Duke/Reyes on the internets is bad enough without it making it into the actual show. Though I do think Daphne and Chaz have kind of an UST thing going on, but that does not mean I'm shipping them.

No, it'd be canceled after 13 eps.

Ew. No. Reyes' OTP = Teh Job. (Or that's what I think so far.) And Chaz, well, I've never committed fanfic before, but I'm afraid there's a Mary Sue in my fingers...oh, the boy has such a lovely brain...

I'm not really plugged into the fandom yet--what am I missing?

(Why am I not in the fandom yet? Because if I let it, this show will EAT MY BRAIN.)

Remember that ep with the cat?

That was an X-Files reference, too, I think, in the shot where Brady crouches down and calls the cat with the "Psss-psss-psss-psss" noise.

Well, and also Mission:Impossible. Again.

Remember the one where Barney has the jewel-thief orange tabby who follows commands from a throat mike? Except of course SU manages to turn it into a comment on the inadequacy of social services.

Oh, *and* a Highlander reference -- the episode where Methos is trying to get the Methusela stone and there's that cat there. Complete with cute 'talk to the cat' noises from Methos.

MMmmmmmmethos.

::happy fog::

Wouldn't it be great to see Wingfield on SU? Maybe as an old buddy of Duke's. Whose side he'd be on is, of course, up for debate.

I'm not sure if it's just my Dianna Rigg fixation or not, but I'm pretty sure that scene with the two agents and the champagne was not just a revealing character moment, but was also intended as an explicit Avengers nod.

I kept expecting to see her bust out some old school karate on someone for the rest of the episode. Or else show up in a cat suit or something.

I'm guessing at some point we'll see a two-shot that pulls back to show some amusing method of transport too.

Have you ever noticed how much SU sometimes resembles The Library?

I'm not sure it's anything I can put my finger on.

Maybe it's more what they both *don't* do.

Grrr. Why must you people keep making me wish I had a television? It's not like it would be worth the cost, with only one a very small handful of shows I'd want to spend time watching. Last one was Firefly, no wait, Who wants to be a superhero season 2. I suppose that just like them I'll have to just go out and track them down online. Who knows, Maybe I'll run into Hafidha out there :)

So, that brief flash when it showed he had six fingers rather than five: a reference to that episode of X-Files, or to the Princess Bride? Both? Neither? What does it imply about him?
